The Barnevelder originally come from the District of Barneveld, in Holland.
They are a very desired breed by many due to their ability to lay a very dark brown egg in good numbers. They are an all-purpose utility breed making them a wonderful addition to any farm wishing to work with a rare breed.
The Golden Laced and Double Laced varieties of my flock that I have pictured here, are a beautiful example of the color patterns that you should expect in your flock. Barnevelders are a very docile breed, which makes them very easy to work with. Each morning as I tend to my flock, the hens gather around my feet like pets. The roosters have been known to accept a brood of chicks and even settle down on them in the evening. They are an excellent foraging breed that knows how to take care of themselves running free range as my birds do.
We know that you will enjoy this breed on your farm, we certainly do!!!
